Jimmy Reece is shown below in car 44 which was a Zink owned car. Jimmy raced in Tulsa and Oklahoma City often and went on the bigger and better things. He raced "Indy" a number of times before being killed in a race in Trenton, NJ. Jimmy's car went over the fence in Trenton. His first ride was in a car owned by Harley Wiggins of Tulsa. Wiggins was a cousin to Danley Clow and Bud Hemphill.

That's John Sawyer in car 93. Sawyer out of Sapulpa,Oklahoma drove for Geo. Thomas out of Dawson, Oklahoma. Geo. bought the midget after it was used in the movie " Big Wheel". Sawyer attends the Tulsa Legions luncheons and is still the soft spoken nice guy we remember.

Johnnie passed away December 21,2008 at the age of 82.
See the Home Page for the details on the service for Sawyer.

Earl Stamper Jr. stands behind his slightly dented 5 Star midget after it was brought back home from Oklahoma City. When you look at the car without a rollbar you wonder how a driver could live through a crash like that. Danley and Gene Barton rode a small James motorbike to Ok. City to visit the driver, Curley Harmon, in the hospital. We do not recommend that trip of 120 miles each way on a James using the old Hwy 66.
Harmon told the teenager that he was not injured in the wreck as he lay there with a broken leg in a cast. He said he was OK until the fans ran onto the track and turned his car upright with him begging them not to turn the car over. His leg had gone through the bellypan. Harmon said he had heard if you were about to be hit try to hit the outside wall at the same time and the other guy would go sailing off of you. Well............he said, "My timing must have been off as it did not work
